I bought an old house that has what appears to be some yellow and some white fiberglass batt insulation in the attic. Can asbestos be mistaken for fiberglass batt insulation?
Mesothelioma has been called “a death sentence in powdered form” and a “silent death sentence”. This is because the damage that asbestos and other mesothelioma-related agents often silently wreak havoc on the body for years, sometimes decades before any physical indications of the disease are apparent. It is for this reason that mesothelioma symptoms, the silent killer has become known as a disease from which recovery is virtually impossible.
Yet, major advances in detection and treatment are beginning to commute the death sentence to a lesser charge. According to Dr. Harvey Pass, professor of cardiothoracic surgery and director of the division of thoracic surgery and oncology at NYU Langone Medical Center and its NYU Cancer Institute former chair of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation and winner of the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation’s 2008 Pioneer Award, “mesothelioma is still laughing at us but it is starting to look over its shoulder”.
According to the Centers for Disease Control’s (CDC) Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) current treatment options for patients diagnosed with asbestos-related cancer of the lung or pleura are limited to resection (surgical removal of a part), chemotherapy or both and that future research could help to develop therapeutic methods to interfere with the development of asbestos-induced lung and pleural disorders to cause the disorders to regress once they are established But more aggressive treatments and early detection strategies are adding years to the lives of individuals exposed to asbestos.
Although there is, to date, no actual cured for mesothelioma more and more individuals are realizing longer lives due to the aggressive pursuit of the medical community in regard to research.
An apartment complex is being built right outside my window in a small town in northern Arizona. After leveling the ground and placing markers, they poured cement bases for each building. Then, they put up wood frameworks. Now there seems to be a bluish white color that was applied to what I assume is the basic wall structure with the building still in a skeleton phase. I’m really curious about the building process and how strong the buildings will be. Although I’m not in either an earthquake or hurricane center, I’m wondering if the buildings would stand if one of those came along. Also: How do they make the wooden framework stick to the cement base? What is the bluish white substance on the first layer of wall?
My beach apartment needs a classy look so I’m redoing the ceiling and floor. I thought about replacing the ceiling drywall with plywood, but I have no training in making those fancy wooden ceilings…

without central heat or air. The air is run from two window units and the heat from one window unit in bedroom, and an old gas heater in the front part of the house. My house also has asbestos shingling on the outside. Also my dog is having allergy like symptoms too. Could any of these things with my house be the cause for our illness?
We have a 1925 home that we are selling. We’ve had a few people ask us if the duct work in our basement has asbestos in it. We have no clue. The ducts come off the furnace like an octopus. They are very large, wrapped in cloth, and in good condition. Can a Home Inspector tell if they have asbestos inside of them? And what will we need to do (if anything) if it is? Any ideas? Thanks for your advice!
