i think i may have inhaled asbestos! what can i do?

i was removing flooring in my home and now i am coughing up black phlegm.

I think i might have asbestos tiles in the basement? a few are cracked? What to do?
I removed floor tile, with a pick, that I found out was asbestos. I inhaled the dust for 2 days. Am I at risk?

Why you think it took many countries (including the United States) so long to ban asbestos, even partially?

Hey there, my mums had ovarian,cervical, intestinal and stomach cancer.
shes gotten most of the cancer cells removed time and time again but they keep coming back. If they keep coming back like this will she die eventually or is it possible to just give her operations whenever the cancer gets it strength back?
I am really worried for her, the last time she had an operation was 2 years ago when they removed most of the cancer cells but there were still some left i think. What do you think her chances of survival will be?

I hate too talk or even write about pooping, but I went to the loo yesterday and found that I dumped a strange coloured stool. It was a bit darker than normal and had slight maroon tinge. I know it can be a sign of many conditions like:
•Diverticulitis
•Vascular malformation
•Intestinal infection
•Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
•Tumor
•Polyps
•Colon Cancer
•Bleeding Ulcer
•Gastritis
•Esophageal variances (e.g. heavy consumption of alcohol for long periods)
•A tear in the esophagus

But I never had this coloured poop before and it is already going back to normal. When I went to the loo this morning, only parts of it were that colour with rest of it being a normal brown. I’m not a doctor, but I think that if the colour was due to bleeding or any other condition, the whole lot would be like that and it won’t go away so quickly. I know that food can also change the colour of poop. When I was a kid I went to South Africa, a VERY long flight. I remember that the airline food made my poop a strange yellow colour, YUCK!! Foods like beat root, meat and red wine can make poop maroon, but the only food I ate recently that I think would make poop that colour is carrots and sausage. Coz it’s summer down here, my family has been having a lot of bbq’s and a diet high in protein can also make poop that colour, but I haven’t had any sausage or steak for four days so I don’t think it would be that. Can changing one’s diet to more alkaline foods cause poop to change colour? Until recently, I have had very mild stomach cramps and a bit of gas (gross, I know!) even though I eat plenty of fiber and I’m not constipated. I have read that high acid foods can cause this, so I changed my diet a bit and I haven’t had any cramps since. I’m not worried, coz this was seems to be a once off and it is definitely not a chronic problem, I just think it’s strange. XD

Have I been exposed to a dangerous level of asbestos?

I work for a university, in the dining services department. My unit is closed during the summer, and our employees are tasked elsewhere within the university at random. I was transferred to demolition. We were in a building on campus removing carpet, and some tiles were under the carpet. The carpet pulled up the tiles. The project supervisor told me to just break the tile off of the carpet. The next day, the tiles were tested and came back “hot” for asbestos. I probably broke something like twenty tiles, bare handed and without a respirator.

The next day, we were told to remove the door assemblies from old fire doors filled with asbestos…again, no protection. Every time a screw came out there was a white puff of dust. They offer no sort of training on the matter, and it’s way outside of my work experience. Was I exposed to anything harmful?

When was Asbestos first discovered to be harmful??

Stomach Cancer – Is It Possible?

For almost two months I’ve been quite sick. I’ve had: loss of appetite, feeling full, nausea, losing weight and a lot of pain in my abdomen and back.

I am currently on treatment for POSSIBLE stomach ulcer. No invasive tests have been performed yet (endoscopy etc).

But the treatment doesn’t seem to be doing a lot, so I have thought of the possibility of Stomach Cancer. I wouldn’t even think of it normally, but because a close relative had a history of stomach ulcers and stomach cancer, I think it is a very real possibility, even though I am quite young.

What do you think? Do you think it could be Stomach cancer? If not, what else may it be?

the city is going to remove asbestos and demolish a building has signs up already…about 50 feet away from my home…what distance could this be harmful…my son has asthma already…should I leave town ? or use the airconditioning 24 hours?…both costly…but safe?

I worked at an asbestos abatement company. In this field there is a medical standard that states the employer must have physicals, chest xrays and respirator fit testing done on the employee. To make a long story short none of this was done even when asked. I quit and was awarded unemployment insurance benefits, now i just received a letter that states my x employer is appealing the decision made by the employment department. I will have to participate in a phone hearing that i think i am prepared for but i wouldn’t put it past my x employer to lie about the facts. What are my chances of winning the appeal?

But what about the CNT’s themselves? I think the EPA should immediately take steps to prevent release of CNT’s into the air and water until the industry can prove they are safe.

The closest thing to exist in nature is asbestos, and we all know how dangerous that is. Once asbestos gets into your body it will still be there after your body is fossilize and found by future beings in a million years. If CNT’s are that durable, and if they are harmful to life, a thimbleful in a city’s water supply could cause thousands of cancer deaths. A ton of them in the ocean could permanently change the ocean’s ecology.

I may be jumping the gun here, but my mother has an ulcer that has not improved with intense antibiotic treatment. She’s been referred to a specialist now, but I’m wondering if it may be something much more serious: there have been lots of cancer cases in my family and I’m a bit paranoid.

We have really ugly 1960’s tile in our basement. Where there had been water damage years before, previous owners have ripped up quite a few of the tiles around the edges of the walls. Though carpeting is a better option, we cannot afford that right now. I didn’t know whether or not we could look into that epoxy paint that many use on garage floors, and if so, what we would do along the edges where tile has been pulled up.

My mother’s dear friend Anne, who felt generally ill, had a persistent, dry cough. Her “coughing fits” often resembled chocking. Having underwent many medical procedures, doctors/specialists could never pin-point the cause of her ailments, nor her cough. My mother had read that such a cough was often a sign of cancer. Three years later, Anne was diagnosed with colon cancer, and succomb to the disease 2 yrs later. Unfortunately, my mother, a non-smoker, has developed the same cough as Anne, brought on by eating, drinking, laughing, and anything in between. We even went to see a Pulmonary specialist, who was unable to offer a diagnosis. She and I have many ailments, and both suffer from Fibromyalgia and Lupus, but neither list such a cough as a possible symptom. My mother is my best friend and soul mate, and I can’t imagine living without her. At 65, she has a lot more living to do, such as walking me down the aisle and holding her grandchild. Any and all suggestions are appreciated

My sister-n-law has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She had a pap smear about 2 years ago. Maybe if the CA-125 blood test was part of the normal check-up woman could be diagnosed sooner. And why isn’t there more information given to women to tell them that a pap smear does not test for ovarian cancer just cervical cancer.

A family member has stage 4 lung cancer. He went through radiation on the brain and chemotherapy. Recent scans show that the cancer has shrunk and remained stable. However, the patient has recently become very confused, thin, and weak. The doctors insist that all of his symptoms are caused by the cancer. However, we are not so convinced. He is on many medications, including several very strong pain meds. The doctors think this is the end, and that his body could shut down anytime now. Are we in denial?

I live on an Army base and we have huge wind storms every once in a while. Last month a wind storm destroyed a building that is adjacent to the housing area. They cordoned it off but the rubble is just strewn about all over the field next to where the building stood. It has still not been cleaned up. There are warning signs saying that the area is contaminated with asbestos. I know that asbestos is only harmful if inhaled or ingested, but last night we had another huge wind storm. I doubt a little police tape kept the wind from picking up the asbestos and flinging it all over the base. I am 7 months pregnant and my husband’s family wants to come get me so I can keep away from the asbestos but my husband is here and my doctors are here and all my stuff is here and I don’t even know anyone back home with a spare room. What would you do? Anyone know anything about asbestos that could help me make a decision?
