Please help us OSU alums, a cancer patient needs to replace a palate lost in auto crash?

Ok. She already had a palate. It was made for her at Ohio University School of Dentistry. She lost it–literally–following a car crash she was in when the paramedics misplaced it.
Her name is Stephanie and she is my best friends daughter. Can you imagine being told at age 34 that you need to have your palate (entire roof of the mouth) and all your teeth removed? They cut her open from her bottom lip all the way to the bottom of her neck. And subsequent surgeries were even worse. Without a palate, she cannot even speak, nor drink anything stronger than water. All her nutrition comes in via a stomach tube. Before she could at least taste some foods like oatmeal, and Little Debbie Swiss rolls, which dissolved in her mouth.
It’s not a question of prolonging her life. The cancer is everywhere. At Thanksgiving, which the doctors say was her last, she could not even eat the mashed potatoes since without the palate in she would have choked to death.
The state of West Virginia referred her to a dentist, and Stephi got sooo excited because she was sure that he could help her, but he can’t, or won’t. A trip to Columbus would be torture I think for her as the cancer is in her ribs and you can only imagine a long bumpy car drive with ribs as thin as china. So the only option is to go the private route and pay for it out of pocket. She’s on disability, her mother is too, and her father is showing signs of forgetfulness. In other words they can’t help. I figure it would cost at least 500 dollars but I’m hoping and praying a dentist can do it pro bono.
It’s too late for a Christmas miracle but Stephanie’s birthday will be February 1, and the least we can try and do for her is to get her a new palate so she can taste the frosting on what will be her last birthday cake.
I don’t know if I am breaking community guidlines but I am desperate, Contact me if you can help her mother who is her caretaker pay for this, or if you know a dentist in the proximity of Wheeling WV who can do this for free.

Yes, it would make sense for her to rerturn to Ohio U, but, from Wheeling WV to Columbus is something like a 5 hour trip just the one way, but because cancer has spread to her ribs too, the chances of her suffering a broken bone just from the car’s vibration is pretty high. Me and my fiance were involved in an auto accident where the other driver was completely at fault. This accident happened over 2 1/2 years ago. I was pregnant at the time and my fiance had to have surgery and 6 months of therapy to rebuild his shoulder. We lost all of our income for 7 months. His medical bills and lost wages exceeded 100 thousand $. Now we are trying to settle and the insurance company offered to pay the medical bills,lost wages plus 5,000 dollars “pain and suffering” We are not trying to be greedy here but it seems like nothing compared to what was messed up by the accident. Our lawyer seems so non chalant about it. My fiance asked about the 3x the medical bills for pain and suffering and our lawyer told him it was a myth and not to expect more than what the ins. com. offered the 1st time. Does this seem fair…I’m seriously considering getting a 2nd opinion from a different lawyer…anybody been through the same kind of thing…what was the end result? Thanks!
We are not trying to make a “profit” off of it…but I had to basically be a caregiver to a grown man for 3 months while I was 7 -9 months pregnant…His doctors say he has permanent disability in his right arm/shoulder that could definitly cause probs later in life (we were only 23 when it happened) Not to mention we were financially set until this happened and when my daughter was born we had to borrow money just to buy the nessicitiys needed for her.
Our attorney isn’t offering any advice and the policy limit is $500,000 per person so $5,000 did seem silly to me

I do have whiplash and my car’s frame is bent in 2 places. I’ve heard horror stories about car frames that have been bent, that the car will never be the same. I asked my ins. claim agent about if I did have the car repaired and it wasn’t corrected what are my options, I was told I could sell it private party….wrong answer!!!!!

I’m trying to work out a settlement with the auto-insurance company over an injury that happened last December. They’re offering $3,500, but we want $5,000. I was wondering how much it would cost them in legal fees, and lawyer costs if we were to bring this to court. It could help in our bartering if we know they’ll be saving money just settling. Thanks.

I was recently in a car accident (I was at a stop light and I was hit from behind from a car going 60mph) needless to say I have been in pretty severe pain from my back to my neck and having to go to physical therepy 4 times per week. I have a lawyer on this case that is going to take care of everything including the settlement. I was talking to my parents about the settlement one day and they tried to tell me that whatever the settlement amount comes out to, that the money would be theirs because the car is in their name. I was outraged. They are not the ones who were injured and having to go to physical therepy 4 times per week. Would the money be theirs since the car is in their name?? I personally dont see how it could be since I was the one injured and it is a personal injury lawsuit. Please let me know what you think! Thanks!

I was involved in an accident on July 1, 2009. I was coming through an intersection (with a green light) and a vehicle coming in the opposite direction decided to pull out in front of me and make a left hand turn. I ended up hitting them. They were found at fault. I settled with my insurance company to cover the cost of my vehicle. Damages came to about $14, 500 and with that amount my car was totaled. My insurance company (Nationwide) gave me about $7,500, the other drivers insurance company offered me almost a thousand less. I was still financing, so the entire $7,500 paid for what I owed on my car. I then hired an attorney. I sustained a concussion (which I still encounter headaches from and it could continue for years), neck and back pain, lots of bruising, bumps and burns (from the air bags deploying), not to mention the emotional trauma I am STILL going through, I dove into a deep depression from it all. I have about $10,000 in medical expenses (physical therapy, doctors visits etc.) My claim has just now been passed over to the insurance company! What should I expect? What should I base my settlement amount off of? How do you determine how much you should be awarded for pain and suffering? I lost my job from the accident (because I had no car). It’s been almost a year and I still have no car. Can’t afford to buy one without a job and can’t really get a job without a car (goes hand in hand). This wreck has put me through a lot. I hope and pray it’s my last. Any advice? Anything I should go by when the insurance company comes to my lawyer with an offer? Any advice or suggestions is much, much appreciated! Thank you!

Last week my friend and I got into an auto accident. We were both drunk when she drove 86 mph into a telephone pole. We were taken by ambulence to the hospital. I had a severe concussion and whiplash. It is less than a week, and I am in severe pain still. I have been thinking about getting an attorney to help me out. I would just like to know anyones opinions on using an attorney. This accident happened in Oregon. They driver (my best friend) was charged with a DUII.

I have been in a car wreck last winter, lost 6 months of work, lots of Dr’s visits and now I have been “cleared” that I am back to normal. My question is- Let’s say I have 17000 in medical bills, 13000 in lost wages Vehicle was totaled and paid for separately (wasn’t mine, I was the passenger.) I have since lost my house and I am having my wages garnished for the rent I couldn’t pay. My personal injury protect paid 10, 000 of the medical bills. I have an attorney but I don’t meet with him for another week or so. So if I receive $40,000 settlement my attorney gets 25% and then I pay the PIP back and the medical bills that are still due, I am left with $13,000? Or is the amount MY settlement then the Dr bills are paid.
BTW- other persons fault, he admitted blowing a stop sign and was given a ticket for it, just FYI.

I found a settlement calculator and it said $60,000 to $120,000. That seems like an awful lot of difference, why?
I don’t know his insurance limits, it was a company vehicle so I assumed they had sufficient coverage. I’m not looking to get rich by any means but right now I have so many bills past due it’s crazy.

I was in an auto accident recently and a friend was involved. I lost consciousness after the airbags deployed and didn’t remember what happened. I was found at fault for following too closely. The friend told me everything and since I told her I wasn’t getting a lawyer, I guess she spilled the beans. I feel like this situation is unfair because now my car and another car are totalled. She told me things that were not told to the police like why her kids left the scene(they were not seated properly didn’t want a ticket), she was in a rush to get where she was going, the car in front of me was all behind her car, which caused me to slam on my breaks. The 2nd car was really at fault but I got ticketed.
Are there any lawyers who will take an auto accident case where there are no injuries ?

I was injured in an auto accident recently. I spoke to a lawyer and he said he would take my case and would charge me one third of whatever settlement he is able to get me. I have tried contacting other lawyers to make sure I’m getting the best deal possible, but so far no one else has gotten back to me.

My mother recently had an accident, in the car were two of her friends. The Lawyer she went to got a settlement, I believe was 70K and my mother got 10k and her friends got 5k each. Now I’m not a lawyer, but I don’t think that his billing hours are going to add up to 50K. Which is what he got out of the settlement. My question is this.
How does the billing process work?
What can be done If my mother was swindled/hoodwinked?
Isn’t there a law against lawyers taking advantage of their clients?
