Hello,
We’re considering a home purchase of a house with popcorn ceilings. We haven’t had it tested, but I’m concerned that it has asbestos popcorn ceilings due to its age.
Does anyone have any idea how much it would cost to have it professionally removed in a 3 bedroom home? There are three small bedrooms and also a small living room that all have popcorn ceilings.
I’m wondering if anyone has had this done, or has any rough idea what I’d be looking at price-wise? I’ve read a lot about the procedure, but can’t find pricing.. even very rough estimates.
Thanks in advance!

I’ve got a 2 day window to replace a popcorn ceiling. I will assume it contain asbestos (circa 1957, popcorn likely applied later) and I am prepared to take proper measures for containment and disposal. I am wondering if it is easier to remove the sheetrock along with the popcorn to avoid laborious skim coating. Also it may be easier to remove larger portions of a drywall sheet than scraping the entire surface. Any thoughts are appreciated.

The house was built in 1980 so theres a chance they didn’t use wherehoused, banned materials; however we’ve been told that some builders used up stock piles.
We are having a sample tested tomorrow at an EPA approved lab.
We do not want to hurt the environment, our neighborhood OR ourselves and that is why I asked if there was a SAFE way to DIY.
I hear pros use a negative pressure airflow machine or such and contain the room to itself with heavey 6mm plastic sheeting, but I just wanted to know if you can do all that yourself.
Also, it is legal to DIY in our state.

We have a very small bathroom with a popcorn ceiling. I’d like to remove the popcorn. House was built in 1986. Is there still a possibility the ceiling contains asbestos?

I had my ceiling tested for asbestos and it came back positive with a 2% content. The lab that did the testing told me the EPA says not to mess with it unless it’s 1% or less. Is the EPA simply being excessively careful or is that extra 1% actually make a difference? I’d remove the ceiling myself with the “do it yourself” technique without any regard for myself, however, I have a wife and 3 children whom I’d rather not foolishly endanger.

My home was build in 1972 and the ceiling had sprayed with
popcorn texture. I would like to hire some contractor to remove it but I heard many people said that It is very dangerous because the ceiling might contents asbestos and ofcourse it not good for your health. I plan to have a sample for testing asbestos but wondering that all the home build before 1978 content asbestos or only some? how many % would be safe to remove?I have two kids and wife and don’t want to mess up their health. Please give me an advice how to do it safe. Thank you for your answers

I’m thinking about installing a ceiling fan, but our ceilings have popcorn on them. Does that type of disturbance release enough asbestos to be concerned about?

I have asbestos in my popcorn ceiling. I am paying professionals to come and remove it.
Just out of curiosity though, after all my internet research, it seems like the asbestos in the join compound is only 3-5% of the compound itself. The rest of the compound is other misc. material. I am very scared of asbestos, so even if it was the least dangerous, I would never do the task myself. But just out of curiosity, it seems like it is the “least” dangerous form of asbestos (if there is such a thing).. is that correct?
Thanks
J
