I live in an upstairs apartment. However, downstairs 3 apartments contain asbestos tile. So, the professionals come in to remove the asbestos. They used some kind of solvent to glue the asbestos together so that when they remove the asbestos the asbestos fibers wouldn’t fly all over the air. I would really want to know what kind of solvent they are using and if the solvent they used are toxic or not because we have been smelling it for a week now. It smelled bitter and smelled like gas too. It makes our food taste bitter. And also, will the asbestos fibers get into the upstairs apartment. Should we be concerned about these things?

I’m interested in communication with preferably female, 45-50 yrs of age who has undergone a right upper lobectomy for adenocarcinoma in the past year or longer if your memory is good. Trying to get a handle on the healing aspects and any advice on alleviating pain caused, I think, from the nerves healing.
I’m taking 200mg. of B6 a day and the Vicodin my surgeon prescribed does nothing for pain. The pain I feel is not at the incision site but on the lower part of ribs.
I’m a 47 yr. old female and had my surgery on May 18, 2006.
Any advice or encouraging words would be appreciated.
I am fortunate that my pain is not constant and my surgeon told me that I don’t have to suffer with pain. I’m just not sure I want to keep getting prescriptions filled and have them not work like the Vicodin.

We recently had an acoustic ceiling removed from a home built in 1974. They draped the plastic and wet the ceiling, scraped it off and removed the debris – then replastered and repainted the ceiling. They also removed and replaced all the floors with laminate. Then we moved back in.
However, they did not test for asbstos and now I am thinking they should have. I have an annoying cough that has been present ever since we moved back in and I am terrified that I am being poisoned. Should I worry and what do I do now?? My husband claims the cough is from the off-gassing of the laminate flooring but there is a white powder all over the walls (my husband claims this is from the paint sprayer and not the acoustic removal) and I am scared! And coughing!
Please only answer if you know what you’re talking about. Thanks.

If you get an authorized person to remove the asbestos from your house does it still pose a health risk for you or your neighbors? I’m figuring when they yank off the siding that it will be damaged and it will be airbourne…

If blue asbestos is being removed by professionals. Large peices of siding on the outside of the house if it is cut to be removed won’t this release fibres in the air. How do the asbestos removers remove asbestos siding on the outside of the house? if it is big and will have to be cut
will neighbiours be exposed from this You’d think having it removed would expose a lot of fibres

How much would it cost to have a roof of asbestos shingles removed from a house in South Carolina?
Also, hypothetically speaking, how much more would it cost to remove the asbestos if it has spread to the insualtion and ceiling?

I have asbestos tiles in my basement (of a home I recently purchased). I sent them off to a lab for testing. The lab results came back 4% asbestos. I definitely want to remove the tiles. The majority of the tiles are in good shape. Some of the corners on a few of them are cracking. Right now I am considering the DIY vs. hiring the pros for removal
I have been given conflicting advise thus far. Some say “do it yourself, there is a very low percentage of asbestos in your tiles — 4%.” Others say “Don’t risk it, pay for the peace of mind.”
Here are my questions:
Is 4% a low percentage for asbestos tiles? Is this low enough to be trivial or of lessor concern when taking on DIY removal?
The pros quoted me $1300 for removal and an additional $275 for an air quality test/certification. Is this a fair price for about 500 square feet of tiles? Is air quality testing really necessary given the low percentage of asbestos in my tiles? Or, are they just making money off the fear and hysteria around asbestos?
I called the city and they told me that the percentage is so low that they would just dispose of them as normal waste. They recommended we rent a dumpster and just throw them out.

A home that I’m considering buying has linoleum laid in 2 bedrooms. Based on the pattern (which is quite lovely, but losing its color where the sun strikes), we believe this flooring was laid before 1940. My first question is, what is the likelihood that the backing has asbestos? I won’t be able to test it until I buy the home. Secondly, if it does have asbestos, what is the time period all the plastic sheeting has to remain up once the floor is removed? We plan to do-it-ourselves and I know the local asbestos abatement place will rent protective equipment.
Putting an underlayment over the floor is not an option. We have to remove the linoleum due to other work that must be done.
I should add that this is sheet flooring, not tiles. We aren’t sure if it the adhesive is only on the edges (which was apparently common) or if it is throughout the floor. We already have the disposal information and costs if it did contain asbestos.
I already know that the owner can’t do any repairs and the home will be sold as is. The county only requires the wiring to be up to code and that an inspection has shown that the foundation is still solid and those were done a couple of years ago.
