Anything that is in the public that causes cancer should be taken care of.
And people who smoke have the choice. People who are in buildings and are not aware that they are containing asbestos do not really have the choice to stay away from it.
Most people who got cancer from asbestos got exposed before the relationship with it and cancer was established. A lot of it was work-based and they had no idea what they were into.
People get genuinely upset because their exposure to asbestos is not known. When someone smokes or you are around someone who smokes you are aware of it and can make choices. With asbestos there is often no choice at all . . especially if you are employed and worked around asbestos and were never told about the danger. Asbestos is so deadly that just one speck of it on your clothes can be passed off to someone in your family.
People who buy older homes are also at serious risk from asbestos exposure. Many of the older sewage pipes in the bowels of these homes are made from asbestos, they detoriate and asbestos particles can fill the air. Asbestos is a real problem that many are unaware of. I believe asbestos is the only directly known cause for methoselioma.
